Last week I watched three soccer matches on USW’s Bob Moran home field. I also attended a Board of Trustees meeting earlier in the week and worshipped on Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church where we were blessed to have 7 USW students singing in the choir. Getting to Know Dr. Myrna Roberts


Like me, Myrna Roberts is an Okie. And although she is beginning her second year of teaching Communication courses at USW, it was just last January that we first met. Like me, she was so excited that COVID vaccines had been made available to USW faculty here in Lea County well before they were widely available elsewhere. Accordingly, Myrna travelled from Oklahoma City just for the purpose of receiving her shots as early as possible.

USW Introduces Doctor of Ministry Degree

University of the Southwest is pleased to announce the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) as its newest doctoral program. On June 11, 2021 the university was notified by the Higher Learning Commission that it concurred with the recommendation of a review committee to approve a third doctoral degree at USW. This fall the D.Min. will join the growing list of doctorates offered online at USW.  Last year the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) was added as USW’s second doctoral degree to accompany the Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.). The D.Min. will be the first terminal degree program ever offered in the College of Arts and Sciences. It also is the first of its kind in New Mexico and one of the few offered online anywhere in the U.S.

Welcome Coach Smith

USW Athletics is proud to announce Cassandra ‘Cass’ Smith as Head Coach of Women’s Volleyball. Smith graduated from University of the Southwest in 2017. She was a member of the Volleyball program and Women’s Basketball from 2013-2016. In 2013 she was named to the RRAC Honorable Mention Team. In 2015 she earned 2nd Team All-Conference, Champions of Character honors, as well as All-Conference Academic team. Smith played in 395 sets during her four years at USW.
