Counting Blessings as We Count Down to Summer

We are less than two weeks from the end of the academic year and the start of our summer terms and it couldn’t get any busier. Last weekend our Track and Field team participated in our Red River Athletic Conference Championship in San Antonio and performed impressively. Freshman Jose Jaramillo garnered runner-up recognition in the shot put and freshman Emanuel Esparza took third in the hammer throw.

Mustangs Hire Arsiaga as Cross Country Coach

Guest Blog by Steve Appel, USW Director of Athletics/Head Baseball Coach

University of the Southwest has hired Gabrielle Arsiaga as the new Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach. As a Mustang alumna, Arsiaga is no stranger to University of the Southwest. She is familiar with the cross country program as well, having run for both the cross country and track programs from 2015 to 2016. Well Done, Mustangs!

Last Thursday, the Governor of our state announced that the mask mandate that had been in place since the start of the pandemic would be lifted with but a few exceptions. And while CDC guidelines still are recommended as wise counsel for those who remain unvaccinated and others in high COVID risk categories, the news of the lifted mandate made our hearts soar!
