With so much going on, where to start…let’s begin with some incredible news that really underscores why I think our students are the best I have ever been associated with over my 30-year career in higher education. This past weekend, Head Women’s Soccer Coach Josh Smith joined Hannah Massey, Alejandro Baradat, and Maria Reynolds in Kansas City on stage at the NAIA national convention to accept the most important award that an institution of higher education can receive if they embrace servant leadership. Last Saturday, as three out of four of USW’s official student representatives to the NAIA and on behalf of our student athletes and coaches, Josh, Hannah, Alejandro, and Maria received the 2017-2018 Champions of Charity Award which signified that USW had contributed more hours of community service than any other college or university affiliated with the NAIA in the entire United States. Let that sink in a moment. With hundreds of schools in the NAIA, we claimed the top spot!

With Great Anticipation and Expectation

Last Saturday morning I threw out the first pitch at USW’s softball game with Huston-Tillotson University. Although I have done this before and thrown a respectable pitch, this time the ball went pretty high but the umpire still called it a strike. Despite not being sure about the Ump’s eyesight, USW played the game anyway and prevailed with a solid win.
