For the past several years USW has looked forward to hosting the Free Enterprise Dinner (FED) that recognizes the important role that ethical business practices play in the production of commerce and the preservation of a free society. With great expectation we are indeed looking forward to doing so again on Thursday, April 7th at 6:00 p.m. after taking a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
This year’s dinner marks a major milestone in the history of the University of the Southwest, and this acheivement itself is cause enough for celebration. In ackowledging our 60th Anniversary, a 1960s theme will prevail complete with semi-formal attire from that era. The event will be held at the Hobbs Country Club and also will feature a full dinner, a live auction, a silent auction, and entertainment.
We are pleased to present a member of the Speaker Hall of Fame as the keynote for the evening. Steve Gilliand is one of the world’s most in-demand and top-rated speakers and is recognized as a master storyteller and brilliant comedian. He can be heard daily on Sirius XM Radios’ Laugh USA and Jeff & Larry’s Comedy Roundup. With an appeal that transcends age, culture, and occupation Steve’s interactive and entertaining style shows audiences how to unlock doors to success in their careers, relationships, and lives.
Steve regularly speaks to more than 250,000 people annually across more than three dozen industries. More than 2 million people have heard Steve speak including at venues that have appeared in all 50 states and 15 countries. As one newspaper stated, “Steve is what happens when the humor of a stand-up comic collides with an inspiration of a motivational speaker.
A highlight of the FED also includes presentation of the Trustee of Free Enterprise Award, which is the University’s most prestigious award. This year, we will honor Keith Pearson for this distinction in recognition of his long-term service to our community.
